We've already talked about how important exfoliation is; if you missed it, you can find it here. It's essential to use the best weapon of all, information, to take care of yourself in the best possible way. At Banbu, we rely on real and scientific facts to offer you the best quality.
If you're here, it's because you want to know more about it and how to choose your exfoliant. We'll tell you what you need to know so you can start your new facial cleansing routine today. Are you exfoliating correctly?
Mature skin
The skin of mature individuals takes longer to regenerate, about 45-84 days. Skin becomes thinner and drier as it loses fat, and these skin cells undergo physiological changes due to neurosensory perception, vascularization, or permeability, according to M. A. Farage in the book Degenerative changes in aging skin (2010).
In fact, hormonal changes during menopause in women have been studied to also affect skin sensitivity, even increasing it by 70%! This study called Sensitive skin and the influence of female hormone fluctuations: results from a cross-sectional digital survey in the Dutch population (2017) by Falcone D, Richters, also links increased sensitivity in premenstrual women.
Normal skin
You're lucky that your pores and filaments look normal. Try different exfoliants to see which one suits your skin best, but you won't need a special one. This means you'll have to persist with exfoliation to benefit from it. However, peels or chemical exfoliation are not recommended as they can damage your barrier and increase your sensitivity over time.
You can use an exfoliant without a specific harshness, but it's always recommended to use a gentle one for your skin to avoid scratching it.
Dry skin
Dry skin is similar to oily skin in the accumulation of dead cells in the pores. It also coincides with sensitive skin in how it should be treated, as you should try to use very gentle and effective ingredients. It is ideal for the cells regenerating beneath these to be nourished as soon as possible, so you should exfoliate to allow products to penetrate better.
We are not going to recommend the use of chemical exfoliants because the use of acids should not be normalized, much less with the aim of selling under the denomination of "sensitive." So, on the other hand, gentle exfoliation containing crushed seeds or nuts is recommended.
Oily and acne-prone skin
If you have oily skin, you shouldn't forget exfoliation. The ideal is to choose a good physical exfoliant to completely remove oil and dead cells. You'll read that acid peels are recommended, but... we won't recommend them without telling you to consult a professional. If you can avoid it, avoid it for your skin; it deserves the highest percentage of natural ingredients.
Instead, use a harsher exfoliant 1 to 3 times a week, and you can also use facial brushes and sponges to improve its effectiveness when you're not using it.
It is known that men have oilier skin than women, but at the same time, they also suffer from irritation due to facial shaving. If you are a man and are looking for an exfoliant "for men," well... in exfoliation, sex or gender identity is not taken into account; use the one that is focused on women. But you should be careful to avoid doing it when you shave, as the top layer of the skin will be very sensitive.
Sensitive skin
Although it is not a skin type but a skin condition, it is essential to care for it and pay full attention to it. We already mentioned that sensitivity is increasing, and with it, the search for specific products for this quality.
It is known that this is a marketing campaign that also recommends products (with scientific evidence) that cause sensitivity in skins that were not originally so. Especially because they are sold without diagnosis and without personalized individual recommendations.
Avoid strong exfoliants, try little by little and increase only if you see that your skin can withstand the exfoliation. You can start by using it with a damp cloth to make it less abrasive for your skin. It is essential to take care of your rosacea or eczema, and remember that where there are pimples, there are scars, and if it is not advisable to use alcohol on them... imagine on facial pimples!
You can use a very, very gentle exfoliant with ground fruit seeds to avoid damaging it and still allow deep cleansing of your pores.
IMPORTANT: consult your doctor or trusted dermatologist if you have very sensitive skin or recurring acne.

Correct way to use an exfoliant
Exfoliation is a very abrasive action for the skin. That's why every time you exfoliate, you're exposing your new, clean skin. By doing it at night, you reduce the amount of free radicals in the environment and exposure to sunlight.
Did you know that sleep is key for your skin's appearance? This is because your body renews its cells and produces more collagen, which leads to improved skin firmness and smoothness. Furthermore, while you sleep, the ingredients you apply are better absorbed because their permeability increases during sleep.
Steps in your facial hygiene routine
- Prepare your face by cleansing it with a 100% Natural Mousse specifically for your skin type. AND DON'T FORGET TO REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP FIRST.
- Super tip: with the Exfoliating Konjac Sponge, you will further increase its effectiveness thanks to the walnut shell and its properties.
- Then use your GRACE Exfoliant on a damp face, respecting the frequency your skin needs. When rinsing your face, try to use cold water to close your pores properly.
- Wait for it to dry and benefit from the properties and advanced technology of the eye contour cream. It absorbs quickly!
- Use a serum to improve the absorption of products.
- The last step is the moisturizer: if you have mature, sensitive, normal, or dry skin, make sure to moisturize it with the best ingredients day and night. But if you have oily, dry, normal, or combination skin and don't need an extra anti-aging boost, we recommend the best quality to get your skin back to normal.

Recommendations to improve its effectiveness
- Exfoliate your skin weekly at the appropriate frequency for your skin type. Exfoliation helps prevent clogged pores and promotes blood circulation.
- Remove your makeup thoroughly; if you don't clean your pores before applying products, you're wasting them. You can choose a 100% natural one like RADIANCE.
- Depending on your skin, cleanse it once or twice a day to prevent sweat from accumulating in your pores. But not excessively! We know that having oily tendencies is annoying, but with a good routine that includes everything from exfoliation to moisturizing cream, you'll reduce that discomfort.
- Relax; stress causes changes in the dermis and can harm your skin's balance.
